Leinart has two things that people are expecting him to
do, pay more child support and turn the Arizona Cardinals
into an NFC contender. Matt Leinart, with all of the acclaim
and attention that he has received in his early career,
can do one of two things: he can live up to the hype and
profit by doing so, or he can be a mediocre quarterback
at best and lose it all.
Matt Leinart has a very impressive and well-known collegiate
resume. He was the 2004 Heisman Award winner, and he led
the USC Trojans to back-to-back national championships.
With seemingly nothing left to prove, Leinart came back
and almost led his team to a third straight national title.
The Arizona Cardinals drafted Matt Leinart as the 10th overall
pick in the 2006 NFL Draft. With a 6-5, 225-pound body and
a cannon for a left arm, Leinart seems to have the tools
and the experience to play on the NFL's biggest stages.
Matt Leinart was not a horrible quarterback during his
rookie year. In 12 games, Leinart threw for 2,547 yards,
11 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. He had one big number
game in week 12 versus Minnesota where he completed 31 or
51 passes for 405 yards. Overall, Matt Leinart was consistent,
and did as much and as little as you would expect an NFL
rookie quarterback to do.
The problem with Matt Leinart is that he carries himself
as a superstar with only one year of NFL experience. He
even carried himself this way before he took a single snap
in an NFL training camp last year. Leinart has two brilliant
receivers in Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin, so he should
throw more touchdowns this year and start living up to the
hype that he and the media have generated.
