Laveranues Coles - New York Jets
What
is harder than spelling Laveranues Coles? Trying to keep
the ball from making its way into his hands. Standing at
5-11 and weighing 193 pounds, Laveranues Coles has a great
ability to get open and good hands for catching the ball.
With only a two-season departure for the Washington Redskins,
Coles has become a fixture for the Jets during his seven-year
career.
In 2000, Laveranues Coles caught his first and only NFL
touchdown pass of his rookie season in the "Monday
Night Miracle," an amazing comeback for the Jets over
the Miami Dolphins. His breakout season was in 2002, where
he surpassed the 1,000 yard mark for the first time. Coles
made 89 receptions for 1,264 yards and five touchdowns.
After the 2002 season Laveranues Coles left the Jets for
a big payday with the Washington Redskins. Coles saw his
yards-per-catch average drop in the 2004 season with the
Redskins. He was traded back to the Jets for the 2005 for
Santana Moss.
Laveranues Coles set a personal career record for receptions
last season with 91. His yard-per-catch average has increased
gradually over the past two seasons since returning to the
Jets. Coles opened the 2006 season with an 8-reception 153
yard game against Tennessee and had his biggest game of
the season against the Vikings, pulling in 12 receptions
for 144 yards and a touchdown. Coles had 1,098 total receiving
yards for the season.
Laveranues Coles loves being a Jet and playing with quarterback
Chad Pennington, whom Coles considers a close friend. After
Eric Mangini's successful first year as the Jets coach,
Coles can expect to see the Jets offense improve with a
good running game and a seasoned veteran at quarterback.
Laveranues Coles will continue to be a consistent go-to
receiver.
