JaMarcus Russell - Oakland Raiders

Russell is the man whom the Raiders are counting on to help
restore the "tradition of excellence" which the
Raiders claim to have. After a 2-14 season, the Raiders
selected the LSU quarterback with the first overall pick
in the 2007 NFL Draft. Russell is a quarterback with a big
body, a rocket arm, and scrambling ability. The Oakland
Raiders are hoping that those traits of Russell's yield
dividends for the men in black sometime in the near future.
JaMarcus Russell had a productive junior season with the
LSU Tigers in 2006. Russell threw for 2,797 yards, 26 touchdowns,
and only 7 interceptions. Russell had a phenomenal game
in the Sugar Bowl where the Tigers crushed Notre Dame by
a score of 41-14. In that game, Russell was responsible
for 3 touchdowns, and he surpassed the 350-yard mark in
passing.
JaMarcus Russell would leave college after his junior season
to declare for the draft. The Raiders believe in his abilities.
Oakland definitely needs some star power on offense, and,
hopefully, JaMarcus Russell can be a star. Josh McCown will
start the season for the Raiders, but Russell should definitely
be ready for some play time by the middle of the season
if the Raiders desire to put him out there so soon.
