Miller is a big target at tight end for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Even though Miller has not caught a lot of passes or gained
many yards his first two seasons, Miller is still 6-5 and
256 pounds, making him a blocking tight end by default.
Miller has also made himself a red zone threat by scoring
11 touchdowns in his first two NFL season.
In 2005, Heath Miller gained 459 receiving yards and scored
six touchdowns. Miller, however, was very streaky and inconsistent;
he started out his rookie season in spectacular fashion,
but cooled down for a large section of the rest of it. Heath
Miller opened up the 2006 season by scoring an 87-yard touchdown
pass in week 1. However, that touchdown would account for
more than one-fifth of his receiving yards of the season.
Miller finished the 2006 season with 393 receiving yards
and five touchdowns.
Miller's numbers aren't bad for a tight end. In improvement
in Ben Roethlisberger's precision in 2007 could help make
Miller a weapon in the middle, causing chaos in the secondaries
and linebacking squads of Pittsburgh Steelers opponents.
Miller will look to utilize his size as well to create plays
in an Antonio Gates or Randy Moss fashion. He may not become
the equal of such offensive weapons, but he can definitely
improve his numbers by emulating their vertical approach
to catching passes.
