Edgerrin James - Arizona Cardinals
Edgerrin
James has put up big numbers in his eight seasons as an
NFL running back. James spent his first seven dazzling seasons
with the Indianapolis Colts, and, in 2006, he played his
first season with the Arizona Cardinals. At 6-feet and 220
pounds, Edgerrin James has, at times, shown himself to be
a consistent threat and to be a very difficult running back
to tackle.
Edgerrin James's first two NFL seasons (1999 and 2000)
were nothing short of spectacular. James rushed for 13 touchdowns
in each season and rushed for over 1,500 yards in both-1,709
in 2000. James also showed that he could be utilized in
the passing game those two seasons, pulling in 125 passes
for over 1,000 yards over the two years. After missing some
time during the 2001 and 2002 seasons, Edgerrin James returned
to his consistent self from 2003 through 2005.
In the off-season between the 2005 and 2006 seasons, Edgerrin
James signed a huge four-year contract with the Arizona
Cardinals. James would leave behind the Indianapolis Colts
and lift the spirits of football fanatics in the Valley
of the Sun. However, his first year with the Cardinals was
far from bright. James rushed for 1,159 yards on 337 carries,
an average of 3.4 yards-per-carry. This average was a career
low for Edgerrin James.
While the 2006, season was full of lots of career lows
for Edgerrin James, it was not without its highlights. In
fact, James had three of his best games after week 12. In
both weeks 13 and 14, James carried the ball 26 times for
115 yards in games against St. Louis and Seattle. James
had only one more 100-yard rushing game after that, but
that was three more than he had prior to week 13.
Some people blamed the weakness of the Arizona Cardinals'
offensive line for James's poor season. The Cardinals are
trying to do their part with a new offensive line coach
(Russ Grimm) and the addition of rookie Levi Jones. James
will have to re-explore his work ethic which he displayed
at the beginning of his career, and try to build upon the
small battles that he was winning toward the end of the
2006 season.
