Dwight Freeney - Indianapolis Colts
Dwight
Freeney is the highest paid defensive player in the NFL.
Freeney got off to such a quick start as a defensive end
for the Indianapolis Colts, recording 40 sacks in his first
three seasons. While Freeney has not had as big of numbers
the past two seasons as he did his first three, he is still
a very deadly weapon on a defense that can be utterly stingy
when it wants to be. Dwight Freeney is a beast, a 268-pound
defensive end who can run like a wide receiver or running
back. Freeney is also cut and takes meticulous care of his
body.
The Indianapolis Colts drafted Dwight Freeney in 2002 with
the 11th overall pick in the NFL Draft. Over his five year
career, Freeney has sacked the quarterback 56.5 times and
forced 27 fumbles. Few defensive ends have created so much
pressure in so little time.
Freeney had some key moments in the 2006 season. During
a week 15 victory over the Bengals, Freeney sacked the quarterback
3 times and forced 3 fumbles. A few weeks later, in a Wild
Card game against Kansas City, Freeney recorded 2 sacks
and forced a fumble.
Dwight Freeney has a huge contract and a Super Bowl ring
now. Hopefully, Freeney will live up to the money that was
given because of his first five successful years. Many athletes
grow lazy and complacent after landing big contracts or
winning a championship, but Freeney is in good hands with
the Colts, and it just might not be possible for him to
maintain his pace with the way that offensive lines double
team him. Still, he will cause havoc for quarterbacks, running
backs, and offensive linemen alike.
