Demeco Ryans - Houston Texans

Ryans was the best performing rookie for the Houston Texans
last year, and he was picked in the second round. The Texans
selected Demeco Ryans as the first pick in the second round
of the 2006 NFL Draft. The 6-2, 236-pound Ryans played outside
linebacker in college, but he earned the starting job at
middle linebacker for the Houston Texans.
Demeco Ryans made an immediate impact as a rookie. In week
one, Ryans led the league in tackles. Ryans continued to
outshine the number one overall pick, teammate Mario Williams.
Ryans would go on to win the NFL's Defensive Rookie of the
Year award.
Over the whole 2006 season, Demeco Ryans recorded 126 solo
tackles, 3.5 sacks, one interception, and a forced fumble.
In week 13, Ryans made 14 solo tackles, forced a fumble,
and picked off a pass.
Demeco Ryans was an important addition to the Houston Texans.
While he did outshine Mario Williams, he also helped him
by taking all of the attention off of him and onto the brilliant
rookie season that Ryans had. The Texans now have a big
name on their defensive line, secondary, and, in Demeco
Ryans, their linebacking corps. Ryans is hard-hitting and
intense, and he will help the Texans improve in 2007.
