Draft and Free Agent Needs: NFC North

Over the next couple weeks I will be taking a look at what positions each team needs to address in the offseason either by draft or free agency. I won't go into specific players they should draft or look at because that gets into a lot of salary cap talk. Also I won't get into offensive lines too much because I don't really look too hard at those positions. I can tell if a team has a good line or a bad one but I can't pick out specific weakness (i.e. the left guard is weak against the inside rush) for individual players. I will focus mostly on offensive "skill" positions and defense.

Green Bay Packers: I think it is time the Packers start looking towards life after Favre. You can't replace one of the all time greats but they will need to start grooming someone to take over for him when he retires. He could probably play effectively for another 5 years but it isn't looking like he will play past this upcoming year. A quarterback like Kyle Boller or Dave Ragone would be a good pick. Defensively they will need help up front because it looks like the might lose Holliday and Brown.

Chicago Bears: Quarterback. This is where they need to start. With the fourth pick in the draft they can probably get Byron Leftwitch who, if his leg isn't a problem, is as good as any player in the draft. He has a great arm, good size, and decent mobility and would fit in well in Chicago. Another running back to put some pressure on Anthony Thomas would be a good way to use a second or third round pick and some help on the defensive line would be a help as well.

Minnesota Vikings: If the Vikings can find a good receiver to compliment Randy Moss it would make Moss all the better. One of the available free agents like Shawn Jefferson or Marcus Robinson would be a good fit here. They don't need another top notch receiver, just someone who will catch 60-80 passes per year. Screw the "Randy Ratio", if the Vikings want to win they will need to do so as a team. A solid cornerback or linebacker would also be a great pickup for Minnesota.

Detroit Lions: Charles Rogers looks like he will become a Lion with the second pick in the draft which will fill a huge hole. Harrington and Rogers can develop into a great combo similar to what Mooch had with Garcia and Owens in San Fran. Detroits biggest needs are on the defensive side of the ball. They will probably release Porcher which will leave them with a huge hole on the d-line and most other defensive positions are weak as well. Some good second and third round picks will help them shore up this unit.
