Who will win the SuperBowl? This years SuperBowl has put me in a quandry. I don't particularly like either team so I have no emotional attachment to this game. Becuase of this I don't know who I want to win this game. I will be forced to make a rational, realistic decision. Here it goes: Reasons the Oakland Raiders will win: 1. Experience: The Raiders have much more experience (esp. SuperBowl experience) than the Bucs. Players like Jerry Rice and Rod Woodson have both played in the SuperBowl before. Also Rich Gannon has been around forever and knows what it takes to win. I can't forsee Gannon making any huge mistakes (maybe 1 int.). 2. Diversity: With players like Jerry Rice, Tim Brown, Jerry Porter, Charlie Garner, Tyrone Wheatly, and Zack Crockett the Raiders have multiple ways they can score. With a lot of teams if you shut down one player the team is done. You can't do that with the Raiders though. If you double team Rice every play Brown will burn you. If you drop a lot of people into coverage Garner can hurt you with the run and also catching short passes. Even on defense they don't have any standout players up front. The line and the linebackers play great team defense. 3. Ball Control: If the Raiders can control the clock they will have a great chance of winning. Most teams do that with the run but the Raiders to that more with the short passing game than any other team. I would expect the Raiders to throw the ball at least 40 times. 4. No Offensive Weapons for the Bucs: Tampa doesn't have any "go to" guys on their offense. They have some decent offensive players but many of them wouldn't be starting on most NFL teams. Reasons the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will win: 1. John Gruden: Gruden, asides from being one of the most intense coaches in the NFL, is a great coach. He can develop a game plan that will give them a chance to win. 2. Great Defense: The MVP of this team has to be Derrick Brooks. He can stop the run, rush the passer, and disrupt the passing game. He is one of the most complete linebackers in the game. With Simeon Rice and Warren Sapp pressuring the quarterback and Ronde Barber and John Lynch patrolling the secondary the Bucs should be able to take away the long passing game. 3. Brad Johnson: He isn't flashy, he won't put up 400 yards passing, and he can't run but he still knows how to win. He is a solid performer who will put the Bucs in a place where they can win. 4. Raiders lack of emotional control: The Raiders get too many penalties. They will probably have over 100 yards in penalties this game so that will be a bonus for the Bucs. Who am I picking: Looking at all the numbers I would say the Oakland Raiders but I think I will have to go with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The 4 game losing streak Oakland had earlier this year shows me they can be beat and their team has some flaws. They might have greater talent and potential than Tampa but I think the Bucs will bring everything they have and beat the Raiders. Final Score: Tampa 23 Oakland 17 Passing Yards: Rich Gannon: 275 Rushing Yards: Charlie Garner: 25 Receiving: Jerry Rice: 9 for 85 yards and 1 TD Home - NFL Football Jerseys - NFL Teams - Where to buy stuff - Top 5 Lists - Other Links - Random Thoughts This site is independently owned and operated and has no affiliation with the NFL.
